GO AHEAD FOR TIDAL ENERGY PROJECT
London, UK – Sunborn Energy has been successful in an application for Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition (CMDC) Round 4, funded by Innovate UK and the Department of Transport.
A feasibility study for a novel Tidal Gravity Generator for renewable, shoreside energy in ports and harbours, the project will start in March 2024 and be completed as a collaborative partnership with Imperial College London. Other project partners include the Port of London Authority and Mott MacDonald, one of the world's leading renewable energy and engineering consultancies.
“We are very pleased to proceed with the CMDC feasibility study” says Andrew Shaw, Project Manager for Sunborn Energy. “As well as working in partnership with one of the world's leading universities and specialists in ocean energy, the project brings together an impressive consortium. It's an important step forward for Sunborn Energy and the first of several potential R&D projects related to renewable energy and floating structures."
Sunborn Energy is a UK based startup venture set up in 2022 to develop new renewable energy technology for low-carbon, sustainable floating hotels and maritime infrastructure.
This project is part of the Clean Maritime Demonstration Competition Round 4 (CMDC4), funded by the UK Department for Transport (DfT) and delivered by Innovate UK. CMDC4 is part of the Department’s UK Shipping Office for Reducing Emissions (UK SHORE) programme, a £206m initiative focused on developing the technology necessary to decarbonise the UK domestic maritime sector.
